No new platform, No news on rumored IS-F/IS500, same old engines with the same exact HP, same old 6 speed auto for AWD versions (8 speed for RWD only). It’s a mild refresh at best.

A reminder that a brand new IS last came out in 2014.

Logical evolution indeed.

As a Lexus owner, hilarious to see the roll show the thing on a track.  Of the entry-level luxury cars, it has to be the least at home there.

Love it. Everything about it. Maybe not the price but that's a me problem, not a Lexus problem.

Possibly, but the CEO did make the demand to stop making boring cars recently.

Oh that’s not bad. I kind of hate the current IS which looks melted and oddly narrow, but this seems to be much better balanced, not to mention not particularly insectoid by Lexus standards.

Interestingly the interior appears to be mostly carryover. I guess this is just a reskin?

I agree, the interior looks like a carryover.

Good to see they kept the Nike sponsorship.

In terms of styling volume per dollar, still a solid value.  And as the 3er had adopted DLO fail and heaven knows a CVT next, maybe even not a bad car.

Huh, I didn’t know they built a test track in Shimoyama. I did equipment validation for one of my last projects at Toyota in an idled part of the Shimoyama Engine Plant. Makes me wonder where they built the track, because the plant was surrounded on all sides by rice paddies and other farmland...

I'm very confused at what Lexus is doing. They've come out with 2 small SUVs and pretty much nothing else in the past 6 years. They offer the RX, but don't have a real 3 row suv, just a longer RX that's still cramped for 3 rows. At the same time, they don't have competitive sedans (aside from the LS, which is low volume). It's baffling that they would do a reskin of a 7 year old car yet they still don't have a really competitive SUV line up. I could see cars being an afterthought if they were instead keeping the RX and NX while launching real 3 row model.

They’re modeling themselves after Infiniti.

The LC is new since 2018, all new LS 2018, all new ES 2019. RX sells twice MDX, almost 3x QX60, NX sells average same as RDX and 3x QX50. True body on frame SUVs GX and LX are 3 rows. New large 3 row crossover in the works.

As long as they continue to pump out LC500s into  the market, we're good

It looks good, but not great. And I too am very disappointed in the lack of any drive- train updates. Ive driven the IS350 and RX350 , the ~300hp V6 is extremely meh.

My 250 hp 4- Speed LS400 has more punch on the highway than that engine. And even IF they do an IS500, I can guarantee it gets the TT V6 from the LS500 and not the glorious V8. The TT V6 would have great power output (416hp 442tq in the LS500) but it doesn’t make the noises the 2 UR makes.

This is disappointing, I miss my IS350. An IS500 could have very easily ended up on my next car list.
